The Spanish swimmer Joan Lluis Pons won the qualification for the final of the 400 styles of the Olympic Games in Rio, after signing a time of 4: 13.55, new record of Spain , the eighth best record of all participants in the qualifying rounds.

Pons, who finished second in his heat behind Australian Travis Mahoney, downgraded by almost two seconds the previous national record holder that he himself possessed with a record of 4: 15.49 from the Open of Spain played last March 20 in Sabadell (Barcelona )
